Have you created a Frankenstein Application for your business?

Have you created a lot of different applications that don’t work together for your business?  Do you have a love/hate relationship with your Franken App because you created it, hence you love it but you hate it because you know this monster is destroying your business?  We get it.  We have met many Frankenstein Applications that are slowly killing business productivity, and profits, and causing frustration in the “town” of your business.

As the business grows, so do different technology needs.  The business needs an accounting system,  Client Relationship Management system,  HR repository,  client portal, and a document repository,  just to name a few.  All of them have to be secure and grant only certain permissions to certain people, BUT of course, it would be great if they could integrate at some point. So you select the different tools, implement them, use them, grow them, and then get smothered by them. This is a Franken App.

You love your Franken App, but you begin to think, “maybe it needs to go because it is slowly killing my profits and my business”.  Employees are doing duplicate or triple work in different areas of the app, clients can’t get what they need, and reporting is impossible and frustrating. As your business grows, so have the technology needs. Is it time to let go of your beautiful monster?

If you find yourself in this situation and ready to rebuild your business technology stack because it just isn’t working for you, then here is a high-level plan.

  1. Identify what the business needs to be productive.
  2. Make a list of all the technologies you are using. Are you using applications that are not necessary?
  3. Make a list of WHO is using the different technologies and what permissions they need. ie, clients, sales, accounting, marketing, HR, etc.
  4. Identify the largest pain points technology is causing in the company. ie, reporting, client communication, etc.
  5. Create a yearly budget to build a shiny new system. It doesn’t have to happen all at once, you can create the main infrastructure and then build it up year over year.

We know it is hard to let go of something that you have created, love/hate, and use daily. Many Franken apps are cherished dearly but killing businesses slowly.  If this is you and you need help with your Franken App, contact us for a free consultation.
